Engagement & Service Philosophy
My philosophy centers on the idea that connections are key to successful service. These can include connections across communities, countries, and cultures. Connections provide occasions for collaboration, communication, and understanding. They also offer opportunities to apply experience, knowledge, and skills which can in turn empower, promote, and support cultural and linguistic differences through commitment, engagement, and reflection.
Throughout my career, I have been presented with a variety of occasions to serve and support. These have often been through community, school, and university organizations. However, I find that I most enjoy service on a smaller scale. Working with students and colleagues as a collaborator, mentor, and/or guide provides individual growth for all participants. As one educator has the potential to make a difference in the lives of many, it gives me great joy to provide support for the important work of teaching. Clearer understandings can be made between communities, cultures, individuals, practices, and research when educators support one another.
